"Memories of Mineralogy without Borders"
This book is in memory of Pierre BARIAND who was the Curator of the Mineral Collection at the University of Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris. Pierre Bariand is one of the most well known curators and mineral "veterans" in France of the twentieth century. His outstanding work is recognized by his fellow curators, mineral enthusiasts from around the world, and the general public who have visited the collection for more than 30 years. The Mineral Collection is located in the heart of Paris (accessible by the place Jussieu (Metro Jussieu)), and is one of the most beautiful in the world. Since the 1970s the collection has gained worldwide recognition for the quality of the minerals, and for the modern and innovative display layout.
Pierre's life begins in the Massif Central, an area rich in minerals and mining, which led to his vocation as a Mineralogist. He completed a Ph.D. in Mineralogy in 1962 on the Mineralogy of Iran. His memoirs take you from Iran to Afghanistan, Brazil and Tucson (USA) in pursuit of the finest crystal in a simple, real and unpretentious manner; with beautiful stories from wonderful adventures. Pierre's wife Nelly Bariand is one of the world's best mineral photographers with many beautiful photographs in this book.
